VANITY PRESS

from A Dearth of Prose

"Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places?"
-Vanity Press, next to the horse races
on murder reported by Park on the Sea
(Black Pearl beat Thunder by 7 - 3).

SLAB SERIF:
"Baker Street Resident Kills Again;"
newsprinted face of girl twenty-and-ten.
Juxtaposed:
a terrible three, hands hard up the wall
of black and white suspects,
and Constable Paul.

But a lad in the park
if lost chasing a fly! -
"stop and buy the paper!"
quoth passer-on-by.
But - the cottonball clouds
and jubilee spring!
(and man with a holster
and girl with a ring
and Constable Paul
grabs the man in the suit,
but the crim wants the diamond -
shoot!

And Gilead's rose
is the bloom in her side
and the Press is outraged
and the earth opens wide;
and the crim in the cab,
but the populace rage:
'criminally handled for a man of his age!')

This Constable Paul
with his three hard against,
the insanity plea,
and bail for tuppence.
