A DREAM

from The Walk

can I dream of eden
in bed, where I lie?
the children are chiming.
the clocks are in bed.
bid us goodnight,
sleepy head.
the midnighters rising,
the scent of debris
on second hand striking
eleven o'three.
the cats are out nipping
by chimney and lunes
in china enchantment
the tapping of spoons.
the glint of the apple
has wakened the sky.
can I dream of eden
in bed, where I lie?
